Anushka Sharma has been one actress in Bollywood who has never shied away from giving opinions and taking a stand for something she believes in. The actress recently took to her Twitter handle to welcome and hail the POCSO Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2019. Terming it as a necessary step in the right direction, Anushka took to the micro-blogging site to welcome the positive move by the Government of India. She wrote, ‘The POCSO Amendment Bill was an absolutely necessary step in the right direction. Putting children’s safety in the absolute forefront should not be an option but a priority.’

Earlier, on August 1, Anushka was one amongst the other celebrities who condemned the brutal act of gang-rape and beheading of a 3-year-old in Jamshedpur.

She wrote, ‘A 3 year old girl who was sleeping besides her mother at a railway station was kidnapped, gangraped and beheaded in Jamshedpur. This is so inhuman and vile, it is literally making me shake in anger. Absolutely horrifying.’

Elaborating further, she added, ‘I hope and wish and urge justice is brought upon this atrocity at the earliest . And punishment so severe that anyone else shudders to commit such a heinous , demonic crime!’

The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha by the Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani and it was passed. Then the Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha and it was approved by the house.

According to reports, the amendment Bill has included a number of provisions to safeguard children from offences of sexual assault and sexual harassment. It also has introduced the provision of a death penalty for whoever commits aggravated penetrative sexual assault. In some cases it also prescribes jail with a minimum of a 20-year sentence.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Anushka was last seen in Aanand L Rai’s ‘Zero’ which also starred Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead role. Anushka is yet to announce her next project.
