Diwali will be falling during the next weekend, and it’s a no-brainer than some big film, starring big stars would look to cash in on the festive weekend. As is, the trade has always maintained that the second day of Diwali remains best for business to this day, and this holds true for the Tamil film industry, too. As such, two Kollywood biggies — Bigil, starring Thalapathy Vijay, and Kaithi, starring Karthi, are set for a major clash this upcoming Friday.
Cast: Vijay, Nayanthara, Kathir, Kathir, Yogi Babu, Jackie Shroff
Synopsis: Bigil sees Vijay in a dual role —as a gangster and football coach — and revolves around the coach fulfilling his late friend’s dying wish while also seeking vengeance for his death. It’s an action-masala-sports film hybrid and promises to be a spicy treat for mass film aficionados.
Reasons to Watch: Bigil is arguably the biggest Tamil release of the year, and stars (without a vestige of a doubt) the biggest Kollywood filmstar after Rajinikanth. To add to the excitement, it’s directed by Atlee whose last two releases (both starring Vijay), Mersal and Theri, were blockbusters. If that’s not enough, there’s Nayanthara whose knowns as lady superstar down South for a reason, given her own loyal fan-base, not to mention Yogi Babu’s comedic relief that’s usually a bonus for masala-film lovers. Plus, what’s better than one Thalapathy? Well, two Thalapathys, of course. Out-an-out commercial entertainers on the backs of a good story and characters usually don’t get better than when Vijay and Atlee join hands.
