Akshay Kumar is undoubtedly one of the busiest actors we have in Bollywood. Apart from his upcoming projects there are many things that are keeping the actor under the spotlight these days and one of them is his Canadian citizenship. Now after all the fuss about his citizenship over last few days following the Lok Sabha elections 2019 voting, the netizens are now questioning his eligibility for National Film Award. The actor was honoured with the National award for Best Actor in Rustom (2016).
Editor and scriptwriter Apurva Asrani of ‘Aligarh’ fame, took to his Twitter handle and shared a post questioning the eligibility of the actor for receiving the National Award in India. He wrote, ‘Yes, this is a very important question. Are Canadian citizens eligible for India’s National Awards? The year (2016) Akshay Kumar won ‘Best Actor’, we were expecting Manoj Bajpayee to win for Aligarh. If the jury/ministry has made an error in Kumar’s case, will there be a revote??’
However, other people from the industry were quick to support Akshay. Filmmaker Rahul Dholakia of ‘Raees’ fame, who has also been part of the National Award jury took to his micro-blogging site to provide clarification about the same. He wrote, ‘Clarification on National Award- foreign nationals can get National Awards . it’s legal, legit and by the booksI have been on the jury ( not for this one) and so found out from an official Manoj Srivastava who sent me this. ?? #NationalAward’
Akshay has also been the receiving end ever since his ‘apolitical interview’ with PM Narendra Modi was released.
On the work front, Akshay has his pockets full of upcoming films which include, ‘Sooryavanshi’, ‘Good News’, ‘Mission Mangal’ and ‘Housefull 4’.
