Superstar Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe managed to pull the audience back to the theatres after the second wave of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The film crossed Rs 200 crore-mark in just a week and still continues to have a glorious run at the box office. During the weekend, the film saw a slight increase in collections. Directed by Siruthai Siva, the film is a rural entertainer.
Annaatthe, produced by Sun Pictures, hit the theatres on the occasion of Diwali, November 4. The film’s production and release were delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. After almost a year in the making, Annaatthe finally graced the screens worldwide.
Trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan, in his tweet, wrote that the box office collections saw a slight increase during the weekend. He wrote, “#Annaatthe WW Box Office HEALTHY rise on 2nd Saturday. Week 1 – Rs 202.47 cr. Week 2 Day 1 – Rs 4.05 cr. Day 2 – Rs 4.90 cr. Day 3 – Rs 6.21 cr. Total – Rs 217.63 cr (sic).”
Annaatthe is inching closer to the Rs 150 crore-mark in Tamil Nadu as well. So far, the film has collected Rs 132.67 crore in the state. He wrote, “#Annaatthe TN Box Office Week 1 – Rs 119.53 cr. Week 2 Day 1 – Rs 3.27 cr. Day 2 – Rs 4.54 cr. Day 3 – Rs 5.33 cr. Total – Rs 132.67 cr (sic).”
Director Siruthai Siva’s Annaatthe is a family drama based on the lives of a doting brother and sister, played by Rajinikanth and Keerthy Suresh. The film received negative reviews from critics. However, the family audiences are lapping it up.
Annaatthe also features an ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Meena, Khushbu, Prakash Raj, Abhimanyu Singh, Jagapathi Babu and Soori in supporting roles. The film has cinematography by Vetri and music by D Imman.
