Music maestro and Academy Award-winner, AR Rahman, has been roped in to compose the music for Pippa, a war-drama helmed by Raja Krishna Menon. The film stars Ishaan Khattar, Mrunal Thakur and Priyanshu Painyuli in lead roles.

Pippa stars Ishaan Khatter, Mrunal Thakur and Priyanshu Painyuli in key roles. The war drama is based on war veteran Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta’s book, titled The Burning Chaffees. Brigadier Mehta of the 45th Cavalry Tank Squadron had fought on the eastern front during the India-Pakistan battle of 1971.

The film will reportedly see Ishaan Khatter play the role of the decorated Brigadier. The title of the project has been taken from the Russian amphibious war tank called the PT-76, also popularly known as Pippa.

The official Twitter handle of Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies shared the news with the fans of the musician. They wrote, “Delighted to have the Oscar winning Maestro @arrahman scoring the music for #Pippa (sic).”

AR Rahman confessed that he was happy to be coming on board for Pippa. The maestro said, “The story of Pippa has a very human connect. It’s about every film, and I instantly related to it. I am looking forward to working with Raja Krishna Menon, Ronnie Screwvala and Siddhartha Roy Kapur.”

AR Rahman has also previously collaborated with Siddhartha Roy Kapur and Ronnie Screwvala on projects like Swades, Rang De Basanti, Johaa Akbar and Delhi-6.

Screwvala, who believes that “patriotic and inspiring music has been AR Rahman’s forte”, also said that “collaborating with him has always resulted in spectacular albums and I’m inclined to believe that his music will be the beating heart of our film”.

Agreeing with Ronnie Screwvala’s statement, Kapur, who is hopeful for “another iconic album” with Rahman, went on to add that his music adds depth to the narrative of any film and helps in making the storytelling all the more familiar to the viewers.

Besides Pippa, AR Rahman has also signed to compose music for director Gautham Menon’s next, which will star Simbu in the main lead. On the actor’s 38th birthday, Gautham Mennon tweeted expressing his gratitude for being able to collaborate with the maestro for the third time, after Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa and Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada.

The tweet from Gautham Menon read, ‘Dear Universe, Thank you for making this possible. It’s @arrahman ‘s music and his Aura that will light up our lives once again in our next collaboration. We truly believe in that. Thankfully- @SilambarasanTR_ & myself. @IshariKGanesh @VelsFilmIntl #HBDSilambarasanTR (sic).”
