Ranbir may be a Kapoor but he didn’t find his place in the industry because of his famous legacy. The chocolate boy of Bollywood made his debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya in 2007. Unfortunately, it bombed at the box office. However, Ranbir wasn’t the one to give up. Cut to more than a decade later, he has become the heartthrob of the nation, one of the most sought-after actors. You probably didn’t know that Ranbir’s father, Rishi Kapoor, initially had doubts about his son making it big in the entertainment industry. On his 39th birthday today, September 28, here’s a trivia about his early acting days that you didn’t know about.
Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor breathed his last on April 30, 2020, after battling cancer since 2018. At the India Today Conclave in September 2020, his son, Ranbir Kapoor had opened up about his struggling days in the Bollywood industry. He also revealed how his father wanted him to start a business to fall back on if his acting career didn’t go well. He said, “My father (Rishi Kapoor) was very bullish on sending me for further education because he wanted me to start a business. He wanted me start something basically that I could fall back on if my film career never took off. This was his plan if I failed in my film career. However, films is where I wanted to live – even if it meant directing or producing.”
Ranbir Kapoor further revealed that he was never a good actor during his school days. He said, “In dramatics, whenever I used to audition, they never selected me. Sometimes, I would get a five-minute role only because I was a celebrity’s son. It was quite demotivating thinking that I am not good enough. I wanted to be an actor but I was not good in acting. Moreover, I come from a film family so that put a lot of pressure on me. I had a legacy to carry forward, there were a lot of responsibilities to shoulder.”
Ranbir Kapoor also opened up about his life at the conclave and said, “The stuff you read about in the news about me are all glamorous and make for a good gossip. But that’s not what my life is. My life is pretty ordinary. I have been born in a film family that’s been contributing to the Indian cinema for years now. So there was never a day in my life where I had a eureka moment where I felt that I got what I wanted to do. I was quite aimless while growing up. I grew up in the lap of luxury. I never ever saw bad times as such. For me, everything was all sunshine and nice. My father was a successful actor. I came from a successful film family so I always missed that drive in my life. We grew up with music sittings, directors, actors and pretty actresses coming home. Films became my reality as a kid while growing up.”
Ranbir Kapoor has given some hit films such as Wake Up Sid, Rockstar, Barfi, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and Tamasha, among others. He is awaiting the release of his upcoming film, Brahmastra, with girlfriend Alia Bhatt. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Mouni Roy in lead roles.
