Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra has reached out to US President Joe Biden, and other US government officials to help India in its fight against COVID-19. In a tweet posted from her official handle, the actress appealed to the government officials to ‘share vaccines’ as “the situation in my country is critical.”
Highlighting that the US ordered about 550 million more than needed, she wrote in her tweet, “My heart breaks. India is suffering from COVID19 & the US has ordered 550M more vaccines than needed @POTUS @WHCOS @SecBlinken @JakeSullivan46 Thx for sharing AstraZeneca worldwide, but the situation in my country is critical.”
“Will you urgently share vaccines with India?” she asked.
The actress’ tweet was, however, met with some backlash with fellow Twitter users stating that it came in a tad too late. Others criticised the star saying that she should not have waited to promote a vaccine campaign.
“This tweet was required at least 2 weeks back. You shouldn’t have waited for #VaxLive campaign to tweet for your fellow countrymen,” a Twitter user said.
Another informed her, “Good morning. US already agreed to supply the raw materials for vaccine development. This should have been posted yesterday.”
Despite the angry comments, fans applauded her for speaking up on the situation and thanked her for her efforts.
