Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s film Chhichhore has been named as the Best Hindi Feature film at the 67th National Film Awards. Chhichhore was Sushant’s last film before he was found dead at his Bandra apartment on June 14, 2020.

Chhichhore was directed by Nitesh Tiwari and written by Tiwari, along with Piyush Gupta and Nikhil Mehrotra. It starred Sushant Singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Sharma, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Naveen Polishetty, Tushar Pandey and Saharsh Kumar Shukla in lead roles.

Sushant played the role of Aniruddh or Anni, a father of a teenage son Raghav, who is awaiting the result of the IIT-JEE entrance test. Raghav wants to follow in the footsteps of his father and is desperate to get through the entrance exam and secure a seat in the top engineering college of the country.

When Raghav can’t clear the exam, he jumps off his balcony and ends up in a coma. Anni summons his college gang, who goes by the name of Losers. They all tell stories from their fun college days to help revive Raghav. From water wars to daring friends to get clothes from girls’ hostels, Losers take us on a nostalgia ride.

Chhichhore largely received positive reviews and also minted big bucks at the box office.

Sajid Nadiadwala, producer of Chhichhore, has dedicated the National Award win to Sushant Singh Rajput. Talking about the National Award win, he said, “On behalf of NGE, I dedicate this extremely prestigious award to Sushant Singh Rajput. We can’t get over his loss ever but I sincerely pray that this award gives a little bit of happiness to his family and fans which includes me. And I am tremendously grateful to Nitesh Tiwari for giving us all this very special movie.”

Sushant was found hanging from the ceiling fan at his home in Bandra, Mumbai, on June 14, 2020. The actor’s death was investigated by the Mumbai Police but the case was later transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Later, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) also joined the investigation.

NCB arrested Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty. She was released on bail within a month. The actor’s father filed a case, alleging that Rhea siphoned off Rs15 crore from Sushant’s bank account and accused her of abetment to suicide. None of these charges have been proved yet.
